What do I do if I am having Windows playback issues?

Verify Windows Media Player and Internet Explorer settings are correct
If you are having trouble viewing a presentation on a Windows computer:

Close your web browser and launch Windows Media Player.
 
 
Troubleshooting Windows playback: Internet Explorer settings
If you are using Internet Explorer as your web browser, go to Tools --> Internet Options to adjust the settings below.
  • On the Connections tab, if the Dial-up and Virtual Private Network settings box is empty, click Add.

  • In the New Connection Wizard, choose Connect to the network via broadband, enter a name for the connection, and click Finish.

  • Back on the Connections tab, highlight the new connection you made and choose Never dial a connection, then click Ok.

Browser settings that affect presentation playback
Here are some browser settings that can affect playback of Mediasite presentations. Disabling any of these may cause problems with playback. The setting names listed below were taken from Internet Explorer. These names may vary between browsers, or the setting may not even be present. Note that most of these settings are enabled by default, and are typically only disabled in environments with strict security policies.
  • Session cookies must be allowed.
  • First party cookies must be allowed. If these are not allowed, users will be unable to use the "Remember Me" option on the login page.
  • The "Submit non-encrypted form data" option must be enabled.
  • The "Active scripting" option must be enabled.
  • The "Run Active X controls and plug-ins" option must be enabled.
  • The "Script Active X controls marked safe for scripting" option must be enabled.
 
 
Player Load Error when attempting to view a presentation
When attempting to view a presentation, one of the following errors appears:
  • Player Load Error
    • Details:
      • [object Error]
  • Player Load Error
    • Details:
      • Reference Error: Layout Options is not defined
These errors can be caused by settings in Symantec Client Security. Try making the following changes in the Ad Blocking Module:
  • Go to Configure --> Advanced --> Add Site, and then add the root of the site that is hosting the Mediasite content. For example if the content is coming from mediasite.server.com, then add server.com.
  • On the Add Blocking tab go to Add --> Permit, and then add the root of the site here as well.
 
 
Error: Operation Aborted when trying to view a presentation
When trying to view a presentation in Internet Explorer, the following error appears:
Unable to open the Internet page: [url] Operation Aborted
This appears to be a problem with the Skype add-on for Internet Explorer. Follow these steps to disable the add-on:
  • Go to Tools --> Internet Options
  • Click the Programs tab, and then the Manage add-ons button at the bottom
  • Find any Skype add-ons on the list, highlight them, and click the Disable button
  • Click Ok and Ok again
It may be necessary to restart the browser after making this change.
 
 
 
Presentation has no audio during playback
There is no audio when a presentation is viewed on a Windows computer that has Windows Media Player 11 installed.
The solution to this problem is as follows:
  • 1. Go to Start --> Run.
  • 2. Type "regedit" without the quotation marks and click OK.
  • 3. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Media Player\Node CLS I Ds\{95037DA1-6ED9-4B27-8CFF-9AD3DFB0B2F2}
  • 4. Double-click on "Auto Insert" in the right pane.
  • 5. Change the "Value data" from 1 to 0 and click OK.
  • 6. Exit the Registry Editor
After this has been done close any open browser windows and then try to play the presentation again.
