Section Break Help

Before we begin, let's discuss the two major types of breaks that are used in the Template.

Page Break: Simply separates content between pages.

Section Break (Next Page): Separates content between pages, as well as triggers modifications in the Margins, Page Numbering, Header/Footer information, Portrait/Landscape orientation of your pages, etc.

To see where a Section Break (Next Page) is located, turn on the Show/Hide feature. This can be found in the Home tab of the toolbar at the top of your page. The image below is what the toolbar should look like with the Show/Hide option turned ON.

We placed a Section Break (Next Page) at the end of each chapter/section in the Template.
You may have to place your cursor at the last piece of text in the chapter/section and press Enter in order to see a Section Break (Next Page). They like to hide sometimes.

Inserting a Section Break (Next Page)
First, place your cursor where you would like to add the section break. Then, go to the Page Layout tab in the toolbar. In the Page Setup section, you will see a "Breaks" drop down menu. Choose "Next Page" under "Section Breaks"

You will see several other options for types of section break:
  • Continuous: This triggers modifications in the Margins, Page Numbering, Header/Footer information, Portrait/Landscape orientation of your pages, etc without separating the text onto another page.
  • Odd and Even: These make your page numbers sequentially all odd (1,3,5,7,9, etc...), or all even (2,4,6,8,10, etc...)
Mostly, you will use the Next Page option. If the section break is mistakenly continuous, odd or even, you simply double click on the problematic section break. This menu will appear:

Using the drop down menu next to section start, change the type of break from continuous to new page.
