Browser Testing Checklist

The recommended way to develop web pages is to build your HTML and CSS first according to web standards and then test on standards-compliant browsers (Firefox, Chrome, Safari, for example).

If you find something wrong with the page when testing in Internet Explorer, use IE conditional comments to include a separate stylesheet to fix those problems. Avoid at all costs building to IE's poor standards or using quick hacks to make a page work. (See the Web Checklist for more guidelines)

Testing List

This list will change depending on general browser usage numbers and site analytics. All pages should be functional and should display properly in the following browsers. See UF's list of supported browsers and operating systems

  • Internet Explorer - versions 7, 8, and 9 on Windows  (download IETester to test previous versions)
  • Firefox - 3.6 and latest version on Windows, Mac, and Ubuntu
  • Safari - latest version Chrome - latest version
  • Opera - latest version

Mobile Testing

  • Check page with images turned off
  • Check with larger font size
  • Check landscape and vertical orientations
  • Check Javascript functionality
  • Check on different screen sizes (phone, tablet)
